Marriage is a relationship between individuals which had formed the foundation of the family. For most societies, marriage can include legal, social, and religious elements. In western societies, marriage has traditionally been understood as a social contract between a man (husband) and a woman (wife), while in other parts of the world polygamy has been the most common form of marriage.
Usually this has taken the form of polygyny (a man having several wives) but some societies have practised polyandry ( a woman having several husbands). In some western societies today, same-sex marriage or civil partnership are legally recognized but remain a highly controversial issue in most countries.
Is marriage really an achievement? This is a question that have been echoing in my mind. Marriage is an institution where two people come together and decide to spend the rest of their lives together, through thick and thin, it is an institution which has been painted for so long as the next best thing that can ever happen to anyone; which everyone should endeavor to make a reality. It is meant for companionship, partnership, deriving joy, having unlimited access to sex,. At least, that is what it has been painted as. But the sad news is, it is not always what it seems to be.
So many people enter into this sacred institution with little or no knowledge about it, going into it with false expectations which always gets shattered after realizing that it was all a mirage. so boy meets girl, both fall in love and after the usual marital rites, decides to go into journey of forever together. Great news right? They have fulfilled that sacred rite that automatically qualifies them as responsible people who should be looked up to according to the society standard. But is that really what this great institution is all about?
There are so many people who do not know the sole purpose of this institution, it's not always their fault remotely, most them have been pressured into seeing marriage as the greatest achievement ever.
As a result of this, the rate of divorce has been on high side, and we keep wondering what exactly went wrong; when the fundamental intricacies of marriage has been abused.
Marriage can be an achievement if there is proper planing for it before moving into it. (Achievement) in marriage means success whether the marriage is an achievement is determined on a person's list of preference in life.. For example, if a person determined that within 20 to 30 years I must be able to achieve the certain goals like
(1) First Degree
(2) Own a Mansion
(3) Having a Cat
(4) Building a Career
(5) Then Marriage
Therefore, When Marriage is part of to do- lists of what person wants to achieve in life between 20 to 30years then marriage Is an achievement.
According to Religion, marriage is seen as part of ethic in society because it unites people from different background, race, countries together, thereby bringing peace to the society and the country. Through this marriage is also an achievement.
Social scientists have also found many positive benefits for married couples and families, including fewer incidents of poverty and mental health problems in families when the parents are married rather than cohabitating. Many studies also support the idea that children living with married parents do better in a variety of ways than children in any other living arrangement.
